WRC Supports City of Oceanside's Potable Reuse Grant Application
The Water Reliability Coalition (WRC) has issued a letter to the Bureau of Reclamation urging approval of the City of Oceanside's potable reuse grant application.
The letter expressed support for Oceanside’s application to the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) for WaterSMART: Title XVI Water Reclamation and Reuse Program Funding for Fiscal Year 2017.
“This funding would help achieve sustainability of the Mission Basin, decrease the City’s dependency on imported water and diversify the water supply portfolio,” WRC Co-Chairs Sean Karafin and Matt O’Malley wrote in the letter.
The City of Oceanside’s Indirect Potable Reuse Project restores 3 million gallons per day at the City’s Mission Basin Groundwater Purification Facility (MBGPF). The MBGPF is currently operating below capacity due to lower groundwater elevations associated with the multi-year drought.
The Project would recharge the Mission Groundwater Basin using highly treated recycled water that has undergone full advanced treatment.
